IB Internal Assessment (IA) Environmental Systems and Societies Standard level (SL) 2016 May Solution & Worked Answer
This investigation explores how varying concentrations of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) affect the radicle length of Zea mays, examining the implications for sustainable maize production in Western Kenya.
Through a primary laboratory experiment, five DAP concentrations were tested on 125 seeds. Data was analyzed using averages, standard deviations, and quadratic regression to model the non-linear relationship between concentration and growth.
Results identified an optimal concentration of approximately 0.1817 mol dm⁻³, with significant growth inhibition at higher levels due to osmotic stress and ammonia toxicity. This exemplar is highly valuable for its rigorous statistical application, thorough error analysis, and integration of real-world environmental contexts.
