The Impact of Globalization on Environmental Sustainability and Economic Practices in the Thai Rice Industry

This essay investigates the extent to which globalization has impacted the environmental sustainability and economic practices of Thailand's rice industry. Using a mixed-methods approach, the author combines primary qualitative interviews with rural farmers and secondary quantitative data from government reports and databases.

The analysis reveals that while trade liberalization boosted export revenues, it increased income volatility and fostered unsustainable practices. Key findings include environmental degradation caused by synthetic fertilizer overuse, loss of genetic diversity through jasmine rice monoculture, and increased methane emissions. The work is strengthened by its application of ESS concepts, such as ecological resilience and positive feedback loops, to evaluate the trade-offs between economic growth and environmental stability.
