Investigating the Improvement of Environmental Quality Along a Transect from the CBD to the Urban-Rural Fringe of Stuttgart

This investigation explores how environmental quality improves along a transect from the Central Business District (CBD) to the urban-rural fringe of Stuttgart. The study tests hypotheses regarding CO2 emissions, noise pollution, and the prevalence of open spaces.

The methodology employs stratified sampling across 12 sites, utilizing CO2 meters, sound level meters, and a 1-10 ranking survey. Data was collected at three intervals daily and analyzed using Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient.

Findings indicate that while air and noise pollution are heavily influenced by local road proximity, there is a significant positive correlation between distance from the CBD and the quality of open spaces. The paper is strengthened by its rigorous statistical analysis and primary field data.
